Sexual Assault
Intentional sexual contact characterized by use of force, threats, intimidation, or abuse of authority or when the victim does not or cannot consent.
Consent
A freely given agreement to the conduct at issue by a competent person.
AFI 90-6001
The SAPR program will provide education and training to all our military and civilian members throughout their Air Force careers to prevent sexual assault, enhance response capability, establish victim support, encourage victims to come forward and hold perpetrators of this crime appropriately accountable.
Commander's Role
Actively support sexual assault prevention and response programs and are responsible for victims and alleged subjects/offenders as well as criminal justice procedures that enable offenders to be held appropriately accountable for their actions.
SARC
Primarily responsible for overall management of the SAPR program by managing prevention, support programs and activities for sexual assault prevention and response on the installation.
Victim Advocate (VA)
Specially trained to support victims of sexual assault. Work under the oversight of the SARC and serve as the installation's primary sexual assault victim advocate, providing and coordinating a wide range of essential support, advocacy and liaison services to eligible military and civilian sexual assault victims.
Special Victim's Council
Attorneys who provide legal assistance specifically for victims of sexual assault and assist victims throughout the process of reporting and disposition (attend interviews with law enforcement, criminal proceedings, etc.).
Unrestricted Report
Any report of sexual assault received through normal reporting channels including the victim's chain of command, law enforcement, and the OSI or other criminal investigative service
Restricted Report
Victims who wish to file a restricted report can contact a SARC, VA, health care personnel at a military treatment facility, or a chaplain.
When Unrestricted Reports are Mandatory
a victim tells someone (e.g. roommate, friend, family member) that a sexual assault has occurred, and that third party notifies a mandatory reporter, the victim cannot make a restricted report.
